Question 1
There are many methods used for solar module manufacturing such as c-Si, a-Si, CIGS, and CdTe. What methods does LG CNS support and what does LG CNS provide for each method?

LG CNS has supported the manufacturing business of LG group over the last decade. With know-how acquired from direct operational experience, we provide related solutions for all manufacturing facilities and consulting services. As for solar modules, LG group's subsidiaries have established manufacturing lines for c-Si and CIGS methods. Based on the experience in automating LC Display's manufacturing lines for the last 20 years, we offer consulting services and solutions for automated thin film methods and module lines.

LG CNS has set goals of automating factories, so we have designed factories accordingly and provided operational services. Thus, we offer consulting and various solutions for layout design, production process automation and operations, covering the entire process, from planning to establishing a factory. The validity of planned designs and operational scenarios, in particular, are verified through simulation to minimize any possible problems and modifications later on.

Does LG CNS manufacture and supply various equipment necessary for manufacturing solar modules?

LG CNS does not manufacture process equipment. LG CNS constructs lines from the selected best equipment from over 100 equipment supplier partners in and out of the country. The selection is made based on each customer's requirements and unique environment.
LG CNS provides consulting such as planning for overall lines and designing layouts and establishes a system. Our partners provide individual equipment needed for the line configuration.

Creating lines with the various equipment supplied by different companies presents challenges in terms of integration such as interface, as well as many advantages. What are LG CNS's unique technologies to address these challenges?

In the beginning, LG CNS has purchased module-type equipment from major equipment suppliers, but having difficulties in terms of modification and operating. Because of this, LG CNS has made a lot of efforts to complete lines with only necessary equipment since 2000. As part of the efforts, we have developed ezControl, a solution that enabled us to integrate individual equipment successfully.

Manufacturing lines have become quite complicated compared to those in the past. For instance, inline requires complex process handling, instead of simple connections between the devices. This can cause many obstacles in operations. Also, the complex process combination affects the production, so it is not an easy decision for a company to adopt it. How does LG CNS deal with this problem?

As process technologies advance, mass production factories focus on reinforcing competitiveness through maximizing operational efficiency. It is inevitable to increase efficiency by introducing complex equipment combinations in the course. Companies have made various attempts to improve their competitiveness even after being faced with technical limitations. LG Group has adopted a complex equipment strategy since 2010, and most of its factories have complex equipment combinations.
The advantage of the complex line combination at LG Group's manufacturing factory is its stable operating system. The ezControl-based automated control software allows the factory to control over 30 pieces of equipment simultaneously and supports various operating environments.
